It's a terrible loss to all of science fiction fandom and, frankly, to the
world at large. There is far too little joy in the world, and some of the best
of it came from Douglas Adams.

I forgot to add that part of the quality of the work is visible in the sheer
number of catchphrases that have entered SF vernacular thanks to Douglas
Adams...so long and thanks for all the fish...I have this terrible pain all up
and down the left side of my diodes...the whole whale-ground
encounter...classic moments that are known to nearly everybody in the genre.

His work will be missed profoundly.
