Periodically, at conventions, people ask me, "What movies do you watch
or grow up watching? What's in your collection?" Having just gone
through and for the first time itemized my DVD collection, I figured
I'd upload it for those with a morbid curiousity about such things.
It's mainly movies and television, some documentaries (admittedly
left-leaning), some funny things and just weirdnesses...so if you want
to know what a TV writer has in his collection (and yes, I know it's a
long list, I like to own my DVDs rather than rent them, and I have lots
of room on shelves for them), and what informs his (my) brain when
working on stories...here's the list.

It's a weird compendiium of shlock 50s movies, classics,
highbrow-stuff, and the sort of movies you'd expect a 13 year old to
buy...but it's what my tastes call home.

God help anyone who actually goes through and reads this whole list....

To this and other questions....

I got this nifty new hand scanner and software that lets me just scan
the imdb number on the back and it auto-loads the full info about the
movie, takes about a second per dvd, not counting the load-up time
online. I was taking a break from David and wanted to putter.

B5 isn't on there only because those DVDs are kept in the archive room,
not the main viewing room.

And yeah, very much looking forward to Rome S2.

They landed there because they're both on the same DVD.

Actually, this isn't the group, it's a movie, maybe one of my all time
favorite films, with George C Scott in the gentle, mad role of someone
who believes he is Sherlock Holmes, and is one day greeted by a new
doctor assigned to his case, a young woman by the name of Dr. Watson,
who finds herself dragged off in his loony pursuit of Moriarity, who
may or may not actually exist. It's a lovely, mad, beautiful film and
something I watch at least once a year.

It's one of the best SF films ever made, and the unquestionable
inspiration for Trek. Couldn't love it more.

Cleaner, certainly, and that's the main thing.

Every iteration of every zombie film Romero has ever made. Every new
release, new recut, or dvd with additional features. I'm a sucker for
zombie movies.

Ditched the Naked Gun movies post-OJ. Just couldn't watch them
anymore.

Slight accident with the set, it's now being replaced and coming in
from Amazon.

This came in courtesy of the Academy as a screener.

The only one I find palatable is the George C Scott version...the only
one where Scrooge has an actual sense of humor and is someone you can
understand.

Though all of the iterations share the same failing in the end...I say
bah humbug forever!
